Trends that are Stealing the Spotlight in 2022

Know what’s IN and what’s OUT for 2022

The pandemic, over the past two years, has changed much of how we live our lives. We are now seeing through to the other side and seeing what that new life means for the home. While homeowners still want to have open sightlines to the living space from the kitchen, we are seeing they no longer want one open space. Separation with pocket doors or French doors have become highly desirable. If a home does have an open floorplan, having a separate dining room is a bonus, as there is another designated space that can be closed off if necessary.

Grey has had an almost decade long rein as the top design trend, however, in 2022 expect to see more bold colors and florals. Bringing life into a once bland space is seen through adding bright colors and adding more nature into a space by incorporating florals. Expect to see more greens and blues in the kitchen, while bold statement making pieces are going to dominate in living rooms. See everything from royal purple hues to electrifying yellows, oranges, and reds.

Just like fast fashion, fast furniture is seeing its way out of homes and is being replaced with vintage pieces that have stood the test of time. 2022 is going to be a renaissance of vintage, antique pieces making their way back into homes. This trend will not only create more interest and longevity it will also put less into landfills and hopefully giving our plant more longevity too.

Open shelving has always been a great in theory, however, it has proven to be impractical. Looking great in a staged home is one thing but living with it is different. Open shelving creates clutter and is less functional than originally thought. Adding cabinets and different storage options, like a vintage hutch, have proven to be a better option. One trend you should expect to see make a comeback is wallpaper. The introduction of peal and stick wallpaper options has made it easier to reinvent a space than ever before. You will be seeing wallpaper everywhere, from the bathroom to the kitchen, the bedroom and beyond.
